The 669 acre Markham Park in Sunrise is also home to an outdoor rifle and pistol range, extensive mountain bike trails, the Fox Observatory, campgrounds, a radio controlled airplane field, rc crawler course, a dog park called Barkham Park, jogging trails, fishing and boating areas, sports fields of all kinds, nature trails and programs, skeet and trap, sporting clay stands, archery range and five stand. Markham Park Is The Perfect Destination For Family Fun Time
From playgrounds to picnics, to biking and nature walks, Broward County’s Markham Park is the ultimate “close to home” destination for a great day. Bring the family, the dog, the bikes and some burgers. With 669 acres to play on, you can find the perfect spot to set up and have a great day with your family.
The RC Truck and Crawler Course is the place for radio controlled truck drivers to test their trucks agility and their driving skills. Multiple obstacles and raised bridges make this a unique and fun are of the park.
The South Florida Amateur Astronomers Association owns and operates the popular Fox Observatory. Every Saturday night, the public is invited to take a look into space with the observatory’s 14 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The observatory can be reached at 954-384-0442.
Markham Park has beautiful nature trails through pine forests and with views of the Everglades. There’s also a butterfly garden called Silent Wings which shouldn’t be missed. New nature programs and night hikes are now also available!
The Markham Park Pilot’s Association operates this 50 acre flying space and 755 paved runway. There are pit areas and tables as well as multiple pilot stations and restrooms. This is a well equipped and run airfield for both pilots and viewers alike!
Watercraft
Markham Park has a lake designated for jetski and personal watercraft. This is a large lake with plenty of space for multiple riders. Bring your jetski and have a blast!
The target range at Markham Park includes a large area for skeet and trap shooting. There are five skeet and trap fields as well as a sporting clays course with 13 stations. Lessons are also available.
The hugely popular pistol and rifle range are very well run and safety is the top priority. There are 66 shooting stations with a maximum distance of 100 yards. The range phone number is 954-357-5143 for more information.
Mountain bikers will love the 14 miles of trails here. There are several trails with varying difficulty. There is a fee for the use of the trails and a helmet is required. Call for further info before your visit!
Barkham Park is the cleverly named dog park where your four legged family members can run free in 3.5 acres. The park is separated into two sections, for smaller and larger dogs. There is a fee for entry into Barkham at Markham.
Memorial Fitness Zone
Memorial Healthcare System and Broward County Parks and Recreation teamed up to create the Memorial Fitness Zone. Get out in the fresh air and get in shape with this outdoor fitness equipment which now features a canopy for shade so you don’t have to work out in the direct sun! QR codes on each machine will link you to information on how to properly use them.
Boat Launch
Markham Park offers two boat ramps accessing the State Road 84 canal, also called the New River Canal, and also the L35A canal. There is currently no fee for using the boat ramps.
